The secret behind successful emails are in the subject line
it’s the not only the meat but potatoes of any campaign. It’s the first and
only thing a reader will see before deciding if to open, spam or trash your
email so it is very important to know how to compose an effective subject line
and increase the chances of your sales, marketing or informational message
being read.
In the current age of email spam and phishing, not only are
email programs filtering more email, but the readers themselves are becoming
wiser, creating a second layer of filtering that your emails must pass. Use the
following easy tips in conjunction with our Omnistar Mailer or Omnistar Webmail
products to increase your e-mail’s readability and the effectiveness of your
message enhancing your customer or subscriber lists and increasing your
business.
Much like the front page of the Washington Post the ability
for your customer to open your email depends on the headline. In email’s
lala land, the headline is the subject line and like an attention getting front
page headline saying the Titanic sunk- it’s short and concise while grabbing
the reader’s attention. Never write a novel length subject line because it will
both put your reader to bed and put you in the trash can or it’ll spoil the
body of the email. Make sure to create interest and significance and or evoke
ordinary human emotion such as curiosity or suspense. But don’t get too Edgar
Allen Poe on them.
In even simpler terms, the subject line is similar to a
first impression. Make it strong and striking and there will be further
interest in the body of the email where you sell your product or offer
information. Much like that guy or girl you’re trying to impress, don’t put too
much or too little in that subject line because you want them to find out more
about you in further dates. Put your best foot forward and make sure that your
first email is not your last impression via trash can.
This brings us to our next step; if making a first
impression is selling yourself, you don’t want to hawk yourself like the
stadium’s peanut man. Promotional words like free, special offer or limited
time are not only instant turn offs to smart people but a smart email filter
and will result in your email being automatically blocked before it even
reaches the senders eye lids,.
And speaking of automation, you don’t want your subject line
to be too generic. Instead, personalize it. If you have any information on the
reader, include it in the subject header. It’s always best to know who your
target is. Furthermore, your potential reader will feel a connection and feel
inclined to open the message. You don’t want to come off as knowing too much or
too little about a person because they will either be concerned or feel like
you know nothing about them. The more robotic and automated your message, the
less chance it has of getting read. People like to feel that a message was specifically
designed for them, even if it’s electronic. Just because someone signs up for a
mass list doesn’t mean they want to get treated like the masses.
Chances are your reader gets tons of emails each day and in
their mind yours is no different from the rest. We do not endorse spam or
misleading information but we do endorse personalization, customization,
appreciation and humanization- values that we apply to our own business model
at Omnistar and our award-winning line of Omnistar products.
